Bovine radius

This radius measures 340 mm long
55mm wide at the top and 50mm bottom and 90mm left to right of top
It weighs 550 grams, 1 lb 3 oz

Ime now not totaly sure about my identification on this radius, it could be horse.

Hello all i believe these to be from wild horses they have no signes of de fleshing or bite marks on them like all my fossil bones.

 

Cause of death?

Hello again note the large abscess on the side of the jaw!

I believe this killed the animal one way or the other.

Humerus bones.

All these are humerus bones.

Note the differencein sizes.

These two are Equus

As you can see therse quite a bit broken off the top, i think they belong to aurochs young and mature.

The statement above was made by myself in the very early days of my work, when i new very little about mammal bones, if the post has missled anyone i appologise !  The two Humerus bones are in fact Equus not bovine.

Bovine (Astrogalas)

Hello all this ankle bone measures 90 mm by 65mm ( 3.5 inch by 2.5 inch ) compared to others ive seen it belonged to a very large animal. It  weighs 250 grams (8 oz )

Horn end

Not enough to atempt an identifacation! but its heavy and has a high natural shine
as ive said before i only ever wash and then buff my bone with a dry cloth.

I found these lower leg bones in another local beck not far from Stainton Village,i believe the first
belonged to a large wild horse. It weighs 1 lb and measures 28 mm long, and 60 mm at its widest point.

Boltonmoss hill

 This hill overlooks both Seamer Carr  and Stainton including a section of the Cleveland dyke I believe would have been clearly visible because of the Stainton now beck, but then river deflection, to the north west .

This would look amazing to any early people , a massive wall shining with the full force of the south western sun even in winter , the unique crystals of the basaltic andesite would look magical , and there would be no better place to view the basaltic wall than what is now the mapped but unknown Boltonmoss hill .    

 

I have carried out research both locally and on line but the closest reference I have in local records is a mention in the 18th century of bolt mare field in Thornton , this loosely translated means a viewing point for the hill ie whatever was on it to kook at .
